The Unsung Hero of Large Network Deployments

October 22, 2026 by
Tyler Booth

The successful deployment of a secure, reliable and ruggedized wireless network, be it in a mine pit, a port, large data center construction site or other harsh environment, relies on many actors working together.  From design to actual deployment and the subsequent operation of the network, coordination amongst the different parties involved at any given stage is a must.  While most of the attention during these projects is focused on the design and deployment, there is another component that is critical and often overlooked - the supply chain.

Building out a complex and far-reaching wireless network typically occurs over several weeks and many times in remote locations. Making sure the equipment arrives on time and is at hand when needed for the network build can be the difference between a smooth deployment done quickly versus a drawn out effort. Done poorly parts are either not available when needed, or many times are the wrong parts to begin with.

The unsung hero in ensuring the right gear is delivered at the right time - is the distributor.  Working with a distributor that is engaged with the contractor deploying the network ensures a smooth supply chain which results in a quick, clean installation. A “good” distributor not only ensures on time delivery of the right parts to the right place - they are also accessible.  Typically this function is served by web site portals where you can check on status, lead times and more.  However this is not enough.  A truly first class supply chain channel will also offer what is becoming increasingly rare in this business and that is a human being. A name and a phone number you can call when issues arise and quickly resolve any problems is the hallmark of a distribution partner as opposed to a box mover.

As any System Integrator or Value added Reseller can attest, having your supply chain running smoothly is the first step to a project being completed on time and within budget.  When choosing that partner make sure they are exactly that - a partner who understands the importance of their role and is accessible on a moment's notice.
